Wait

By Jodi Payne

The waiting room was small and sterile. The chairs that lined the walls, and stood in orderly rows back-to-back, were covered in a mint green paisley print that was a little worse for wear; faded and worn from countless years of blue jean or dress skirt-clad asses helping themselves to a seat.

And if Janie's experience was at all typical, those asses sat and waited a damn long time.

Janie's ass in particular was warming a chair that was wedged into a corner where she could see everyone in the room. Watching the other women come and go was much more entertaining than reading Readers' Digest, Woman's Day or Pregnancy Magazine.

And man, had she watched a lot of women come and go. She checked her watch again. She'd been waiting more than half an hour already. She'd actually stooped to reading the copy of People that she'd had in her hands to hide her wandering eyes, and she was growing so desperate for entertainment that she was even eyeing the grubby, kid-mangled copy of Highlights that was lying on the table next to her.

The door opened, letting in warm summer air, and through it walked Janie's salvation. Janie watched the tall woman make her way from the door, across the waiting room to the reception window. She had chocolate brown hair that fell in waves across her shoulders and her creamy, pale skin was pinked slightly from the heat.

"Alicia Barrow for Dr. Spinner," Janie heard her say.

"Thank you." The wizened woman behind the counter handed Alicia a clipboard in a bored manner. "Fill this out, please."

Alicia took the paperwork to a chair in the row across from Janie, and Janie watched her chew on the pen cap and tap it against the board in between filling in line after line of personal information. She had a nice manicure, Janie noticed, trim and sport-length with a pale pink nail polish. When she was done, Alicia took the board back to counter and then returned to her seat, briefly meeting Janie's eyes and smiling a baby-blue hello.

Janie didn't want to stare – or more truthfully, she did, but she didn't want Alicia to know it. She returned Alicia's smile as briefly as she could manage and then glanced at her watch again. Forty-five minutes was absurd. She stood up and went to the reception counter. "Do you know how far behind the doctor is running?" she asked. "I've been waiting forty-five minutes."

The receptionist was on the phone and gave Janie the one-finger-wait sign. Janie sighed, but when she looked down at the desk she found that Alicia's paperwork was still sitting there. Janie grinned wickedly, not feeling the least bit guilty about taking advantage of the blatant violation of patient confidentiality.

Alicia lived on the west side and worked for what appeared to be a florist. She was 28 years old, and she hadn't filled in anything under "spouse's name and occupation". Janie's grin grew wider.

"Can I help you?"

Janie looked up sharply trying not to look like she'd been caught with her hand in the cookie jar. "Uh… was just wondering how far behind we were?"

"You're…" the woman ran a gnarled finger down a long list of names. "Ms. Lowe?"

"Yep."

"You're up next."

"Oh, great. Thanks." Janie nodded and went back to her seat. Alicia had taken her coat off and had hung it over the back of the chair next to her. She was reading the People Magazine that Janie had set aside. Janie hesitated, considering what to say, but finally just started to talk.

"Can you believe her?" Janie said.

Alicia looked up from the magazine. "Hm?"

"Hilton. Can you believe her?"

"Oh," Alicia smiled, flipping back to the front cover to look at the picture of Paris Hilton. "No. I was just reading about her little dog."

"That dog is more interesting than she is."

"Tell me about it." Alicia laughed and Janie's world tilted a little. Alicia's smiled brightened everything around her, even the dreary, worn-out waiting room was no match.

Janie panicked a little as Alicia went back to her magazine. She had the woman talking, she couldn't let her go now. "You would not believe the traffic on Williston Boulevard this morning. I was stuck in it for like twenty minutes." Williston was on the west side, near where Alicia's paperwork said she lived.

Alicia looked up again. "Were you stuck in that, too? I was late to work this morning because of that mess. There was construction up near the Briggs Street intersection and they had to have someone directing traffic at the light."

"You'd think they would wait until rush hour was over to do that kind of thing."

"Exactly." Alicia leaned forward, clearly connecting with Janie on this point. "It like that every morning now. It's so inconvenient."

Janie got up and moved across the aisle to sit next to Alicia as they talked. Alicia looked a little uncomfortable at first but Janie kept her talking about cars and traffic and Alicia started to relax.

"What do you drive?"

"Oh, man. I drive a BMW E12."

Janie whistled. "Vintage. Nice."

Alicia smiled again, looking wistful. "Yeah, she's my baby."

"I uh…" Janie's eyes narrowed. "I see one parked outside my florist sometimes."

Alicia raised an eyebrow. "Your… florist?"

"Yeah. Blossoms and Bows?"

Alicia blinked at her. "Blossoms and Bows. On 8th?"

"That's the one, yeah."

"Are you a regular customer?"

"Oh yeah," Janie lied, waving her hand dismissively. "Go there all the time. You know the place?"

"I own it."

Oops. Busted. Janie tried to play it off. "Oh, really?"

"You don't look at all familiar to me."

Janie winced. "Oh. I, uh… I do a lot of ordering on your website."

Alicia shook her head no.

"Usually there's a blonde… uh… that helps me?"

Alicia crossed her arms over her chest and snorted.

"Right," Janie sighed. "I was totally hitting on you."

To Janie's great surprise, Alicia grinned and nodded to her. "Good. I was watching your ass while you read over my paperwork."

Janie blushed. "Really? Damn. Being busted never felt so good."

"You weren't on Williston this morning at all, were you." Alicia looked sidelong at Janie and smiled knowingly.

"Nope," Janie admitted, grinning back. "I live downtown. A friend of mine was complaining about the traffic at lunch."

"Not bad, you almost had me with that one."

"I try." Janie leaned back in her chair. "So, now what?"

"Now." Alicia looked around the room and then at Janie. "Well, now we have examinations, and then—"

"And then…?" Janie interrupted.

Alicia was about to answer when a soft voice interrupted them. "Ms. Lowe?" Janie looked over her shoulder at a young, pretty nurse in scrubs. "Janelle Lowe?"

"She's calling your name," Alicia whispered to her, leaning in closer.

Janie hadn't given her name yet, so she supposed that Alicia had been also listening while she was watching Janie's ass. Janie grinned and closed the distance between them even more, until they were almost touching foreheads and whispered back, "I'd rather be examined by you."

Alicia winked at her and licked her lips.

"Uh, Janelle left," Janie called out, standing and reaching for her bag. "She said you'd kept her waiting too long." She tugged her bag close to her and headed for the door, and Alicia seemed to rush to keep up.

"I'm canceling," Alicia told the woman behind the desk and then followed Janie out.

After a quick grope and a short discussion it was decided that they'd head back to Janie's place, so they left Alicia's Beemer in the parking lot and took Janie's SUV. They'd barely gotten through Janie's front door when Alicia made a move. Janie felt a hand on her ass and another in her hair and she let herself be turned around. Their lips met wetly as she and Alicia took some time to get to know one another much, much better. Alicia tasted like coffee and she was wearing a very subtle cologne that reminded Janie of strawberries.

They pushed and pulled at each other's clothing as they kissed, becoming more and more mussed; more breathless and wrinkled but no less clothed. After some comic wrestling and frustrated grunting Janie finally tugged Alicia through her bedroom door and shoved her onto the bed.

"Oh, thank god," Alicia said, attacking her own clothing with her fingers. She pulled her tank top off over her head and started to wiggle out of her shorts. Janie just watched, admiring the way Alicia moved, the way the woman's hips rolled and arched on the mattress as she undressed. Alicia stood up to wiggle out of her panties and looked Janie over meaningfully. "Get undressed," she suggested softly, stepping over to Janie and draping herself along Janie's body.

Janie looked up over Alicia's shoulder catching sight of the two of them in the large mirror over her dresser. In it she admired Alicia's body, naked and pale, rubbing up against the denim of Janie's blue jeans and the soft, worn fabric of her T-shirt.

Alicia lifted her eyes to look at Janie and then followed her gaze, slowly turning around to face the mirror and pressing her back into Janie instead. "Oh. Well, look at that," she purred, meeting Janie's eyes in their reflection and pulling one of Janie's hands up to cup it around her bare breast.

Janie licked her lips and swallowed, trying not to squirm like a teenager. She bent her mouth to Alicia's bare shoulder and neck, kissing and tasting her as she took Alicia's other breast in her fingers as well. Gently, she massaged them both, drawing her thumbs over and around Alicia's dark nipples again and again until they drew up tight and hard. Alicia sighed and dropped her head back on Janie's shoulder.

Eyes still on the mirror, Janie slipped one hand over Alicia's body, sliding her palm across Alicia's soft belly and her fingers into Alicia's curls, making Alicia moan. She watched, looking at Alicia's naked body as Alicia writhed against her clothed hips and arched into her touch. Finally she spun Alicia around to face her again and bent down a little to suck one taut nipple into her mouth.

"Yes," Alicia sighed and eased herself backwards a few steps until she could sit on the edge of the bed. Janie went to her knees and drew the other nipple between her lips before slipping two fingers over Alicia's clit. "Oh, god."

Alicia arched into Janie's hand and reached down to tug on Janie's shirt. Janie was forced to pull away as she helped Alicia remove it, but she took advantage of the moment after and shoved Alicia flat on the bed.

"Janie," Alicia said with a moan.

Janie stood and dropped her jeans. "You're beautiful," she told Alicia truthfully and crawled over her to straddle one of Alicia's legs. Alicia bent her knee up and Janie grinned, grinding against Alicia's thigh. "Yeah." She sighed and then went still, slipping her fingers over Alicia's clit again and then deeper as Alicia guided her fingers inside.

Alicia's cunt was slick and warm and Janie watched the woman's face as she buried two fingers insider Alicia and pressed a thumb over Alicia's clit. It seemed to be enough at first, the slow teasing and the pretty moans that Alicia was making, but soon Alicia wanted more, much more, and she began to pant and roll her hips into Janie's hand.

Janie felt Alicia reach for her to roll them both onto their sides and she stretched out along Alicia's length, face to face and hip to hip. Alicia's fingers found Janie's nipples first and once they were sensitive and stiff she moved her fingers to Janie's clit making Janie moan and arch, needing to be touched.

They started a sweet rhythm, each of them with fingers buried inside the other, each of them moaning and grinding and maneuvering their thighs and knees for better leverage and stronger, tighter, hotter friction.

"Yes! Fuck," Janie cursed and snaked her free arm under Alicia's shoulders, pulling their bodies even closer together. The bed creaked in protest as they writhed and bucked together, both of them sweating and panting as the sweet scent of sex rose up between their bodies, and Janie's headboard slammed into the bedroom wall.

"More!" Alicia groaned, loud and demanding. She used her body to roll Janie onto her back but kept her fingers tucked tightly inside Janie without falter. Janie's own fingers fell free of Alicia's body as Alicia moved over her to straddle one of Janie's thighs and with a needy moan, Alicia began to buck wildly against the newly added pressure. Janie moved with her, seeking to rub her own clit in Alicia's palm and moments later Alicia was screaming as she came, her brow furrowed and her mouth open in a gasp. "Yes! Janie! Fuck, yes!" She shouted and Janie went still, letting Alicia ride it out and savor the moment.

When Alicia finally opened her eyes she grinned down at Janie and gave her another wink. She began to move again, sliding slowly down Janie's body.

"Oh," Janie panted, "you don't have to…" But Janie wanted it and her protests were transparent. She felt the wet heat of Alicia's tongue against her sensitive clit and she shivered, arching hard. "Oh fuck, yes! Please."

It didn't take long. Not long at all. Alicia teased and scrubbed at Janie with her tongue and Janie begged for more as she felt herself rise. She looked down her body to Alicia's soft tumble of brown hair, watching how it spilled over Janie's thighs and suddenly felt her body tense and tremble and then a driving, wracking orgasm finally, utterly, shattered her to bits.

She was still panting hard when Alicia kissed her, the salty taste of her own sex so hot she felt another tremor deep inside. She wasn’t sure if this new lover would stay or go, but she was damn glad that fucking doctor had made her wait.

End.
